Teenager arrested over hate crime at Tynecastle Stadium

A teenager has been charged with a hate crime at Tynecastle Stadium where Saturday’s Edinburgh derby was marred by racist incidents.

The 19-year-old was arrested following the alleged offence at the Hearts ground which was reported to police on Monday.

He will appear at court at a later date.

Inspector Kieran Dougal, of Wester Hailes police station said: “These crimes are committed by a small minority intent on ruining a great atmosphere.

“Thankfully these types of incidents are very rare and are not a reflection vast majority of fans who attend football matches.

“However, in order to protect everyone, we need all hate crimes to be reported to us.”

Hibs midfielder Marvin Bartley was subject to racial abuse while he warmed up on the touchline.

A 38-year-old man was previously arrested over racist remarks made at the game, which Hibs won 2-1.

A 16-year-old and 19-year-old were also detained in relation to throwing a coin and flare respectively.
