Teenager arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after woman left in hospital following crash in Tonypandy

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after a woman was taken to hospital having been hit by a car.

A South Wales Police spokesman confirmed a 17-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

The collision happened shortly before 1pm on Wednesday in De Winton Street in Tonypandy and police and paramedics attended the scene. The road was closed in both directions while officers investigated but it has since re-opened.

The spokesman said: "Shortly before 1pm emergency services were called following a collision between a car and a female pedestrian on De Winton Street in Tonypandy.

"The 79-year-old pedestrian has been taken by ambulance to hospital.

"The 17-year-old male driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.

"The road was closed while investigations took place. It re-opened at around 2.30pm."
