Teenager arrested on suspicion of causing death by drink or drug driving after man dies following horror smash

A teenage driver has been arrested after a man died when he was hit by a car.

The 24-year-old victim has been named locally as Kristian Johnson.

He was hit by a Suzuki Alto on Market Street, Bacup, close to the Texaco service station at 1am today, LancsLive report.

Mr Johnson died at the scene.

Police say his next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the Suzuki, a 19-year-old woman from Bacup was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs.

She remains in police custody.

Lancashire Police attended the scene and closed the road for around three hours while officers carried out collision investigation work.

Sgt Andy Ainsworth said: “An investigation is underway following a fatal collision in Bacup.

“A man has died and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

“A family liaison officer has been appointed to support the man’s family.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police to come forward.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to a group of males who stopped at the scene – they may have information useful to our investigation.”
