Teenager charged after 'stabbing' of 15-year-old girl

A teenager has been charged after a 15-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed in the neck in Co Armagh.

Crews attended the traumatic scene at Dean’s Walk in Lurgan at around 9pm on Friday night.

Local man Sean Henderson saw police and paramedics battling to save the young girl’s life.

He said: “She was conscious and able to tell the paramedics her name and where she was from, but was losing a lot of blood.”

A police spokesman said on Saturday night: "Detectives investigating a stabbing incident at Dean’s Walk in Lurgan on Friday night have charged a 14-year-old girl with grievous bodily harm with intent. She is due to appear at Lisburn court on Monday 22 April."

The PSNI added: “Thanks purely to the professionalism and skill of our NHS colleagues, we are not dealing with a dead teenager today.

Lurgan stabbing leaves 15-year-old girl in critical condition

“We are aware that a group of teenagers were in the area at the time, and believe that many will have seen what happened, but left prior to our arrival.

“Some will be sitting at home today, wondering whether to speak up about what they witnessed. Some parents may be aware that their child has seen something. That could be vital information.

“We cannot be clear enough about it - this was not some graze or a small cut. This was a life changing, near fatal neck wound which has left a young girl fighting for her life."

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart has been speaking with the family.

She told Belfast Live: "After the serious incident last night, I have been in contact with the family of the victim.

"I know the young girl’s family and they are extremely distressed at what has happened. Thankfully, she has been through an operation and things are getting better but there is a long way to go in her recovery.

"It is important that the PSNI are able to establish all facts during their line of investigation and that those responsible face the law.

"My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends."
