Teenager arrested after 'assaulting two police officers' in Salford

A teenager has been arrested for allegedly assaulting two police officers in Walkden.

Police say the incident happened at the Ellesmere Shopping Centre just before 9pm on Wednesday (October 28).

It comes after police issued a dispersal order following a rise in anti-social behaviour in the area.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of common assault on an emergency worker and has been bailed with conditions pending further enquiries.

The conditions include not to attend Ellesmere Shopping Centre.

Inspector Allen, from the GMP Little Hulton, Walkden, Ellenbrook and Worsley division, said: “Recently we have seen an increase in anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhood, particularly at the Ellesmere Centre.

“This week we have patrolled the hotspots regularly and implemented a dispersal order, allowing us to direct individuals whose behaviour was causing or contributing to ASB to leave.

“We have issued eight directions under the order and also arrested one young person after they assaulted two of our officers.

“Since implementing the order and increasing our patrols we have received no further reports of ASB in the areas, which is promising.

“We will continue to tackle this issue and it is important our young people understand that such behaviour will not be tolerated.

“It is very sad to see a small number of individuals causing misery for so many.

“Parents - please ensure you know where your children are and talk to them about the recent increase in ASB.

“We want all members of our community to be safe and feel comfortable in their local area. I know it’s been a difficult year for all, and a lot of planned activities have not gone ahead, but there are still plenty opportunities available for young people online and in socially distanced settings...

“...I must say this is only a small number of individuals causing the problem, and we have a fantastic community of young people in our neighbourhood, who I am incredibly proud of.”
