Teenager and two adults hospitalised after petrol bomb attack in Co Louth

A man remains in a serious condition in hospital after he was badly burnt in an early morning petrol bomb attack on a house in Co Louth.

A female in her 40s and a female teenager were also injured and received hospital treatment due to smoke inhalation from the attack in the feud-hit town of Drogheda at 2am yesterday.

Sources say the injured people were innocent victims of the attack.

“The people in the house were not the targets of the petrol bomb," a source told this paper.

"The male, who was lying on the couch in the front room bore the full blunt of the petrol bomb.

“He is in a serious condition in hospital. The house was completely gutted,” the source said.

Firefighters and emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the house in St Finian’s Park was targeted.

The male, who is in his 50s was taken to the burns unit at St James’s Hospital in Dublin while the two females were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with smoke inhalation.

Gardai are also investigating whether the attack is linked to a separate incident in the Laurence’s Park area an hour later when, at 3am, a car was damaged.

In a statement, An Garda Siochana confirmed the incidents of criminal damage to the property and the vehicle.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
