Teenager and man charged with attempted murder after Newry assault

A teenager and man have been charged with attempted murder after an assault in Newry.

A 15-year-old male and 24-year-old man have both been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The 15-year-old has also been charged with possession of a Class B controlled drug, while the 24-year-old has been charged with possession of a Class C controlled drug. 

They are due to appear at Newry Magistrates' Court this morning.

The charges are in connection to the report of an assault in the Cleary Crescent area of Newry in the early hours of Wednesday, May 29. It’s understood a 26-year-old man was injured in the incident.

As is normal procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A 17-year-old male appeared at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 30.  A 29-year-old man arrested was released on bail pending further enquiries in relation to the incident.
