Teenager among four arrested over fatal stabbing in broad daylight

A teenager was among four people arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was fatally stabbed on a Manchester street in broad daylight, police said.

Officers who responded to the attack in Waterloo Street, Oldham yesterday afternoon found the victim believed to be in his 20s unconscious and not breathing.

The man was rushed to hospital but later died after the attack near Charters Jewellers at around 3.20pm.

Police last night arrested a 15-year-old teenager, two men aged 20 and one 22-year-old. They remain in custody for questioning.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Nicky Porter said: “Although the investigation is making good progress, it remains in its early stages.

“I appeal to anyone who may have witnessed what happened yesterday or who has any information to contact us.”

He added: “My foremost thoughts are with the family who have suffered this tragedy and they continue to be support by specially trained officers.”

A police cordon remains at the scene where the man was found in Waterloo Street.

Police said the next-of-kin had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Anyone with information over the murder should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1293 of 09/03/18 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
