Teenager airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty swimming at a Monaghan lake

A 15-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after getting into difficulty swimming at a Co Monaghan lake.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident at Hollywood Lake.

The youngster was airlifted from the water and has been taken to hospital via Air Ambulance.

His condition is being described as being serious.

The incident comes after a spate of recent tragic drownings across the country.

In a statement to the Mirror this evening, gardai confirmed they are attending the incident.

"Gardaí are currently at the scene of an incident at Hollywood Lake in Co. Monaghan.

"Emergency services are also at the scene. A male, details currently unknown, was taken from the water in a serious condition and has been transferred to hospital by Air Ambulance.

"No further information is available at this time. Inquiries are ongoing."
