Teenager achieves incredible GCSE grades after house destroyed in gas explosion

A teenager who lost all her school work after her house exploded has gone on to achieve some of the highest GCSE grades in the county.

Isabelle Glover, 16, of Highbury Vale, was left distraught when she lost all her exam preparation work in a fire that engulfed her home in Ingram Road.

The incident happened on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, after a gas explosion on their street caused the roof of their property to collapse.

Residents were forced to evacuate their homes , with the street filled with firefighters, police and paramedics fighting to save people from the plume of thick black smoke.

The family are still in temporary accommodation, but despite the struggles, Isabelle has still managed to focus on her school work and get the grades she so desperately wanted.

Her proud dad Stuart Glover, 43, told Nottinghamshire Live: "We are still not back in our home. It has destroyed it and it is still being held up with scaffolding.

"The blast took the plaster off the walls and the roof was damaged. We are no further than we are when it happened. They are just starting to do work now.

"It is an old house and we lost everything. Everything we had for 19 years has gone."

Mr Glover, who shared the property with his daughter, two sons, 21 and 14, and wife said they have moved to temporary accommodation near Nottingham City Hospital.

His wife was in the house when the blast occurred, but she was not seriously injured.

He said: "Isabelle was gearing up for her exams and a lot of her work such as her revising notes was lost. It was a big thing for her.

"With everything that has happened, and then they were off school (due to the pandemic), this was a big worry but she got what she deserved. I am very proud of her.

"She has done really well and one of the highest in Nottingham for what she has got."

Isabelle who attends National Academy at Hucknall achieved nine 9-grades and one 8-grades at GCSE.

The highest grades are 8 and 9, which is the equivalent of an A*.
