The lawyer for a teenager accused of stabbing a security guard at an Adelaide CBD sports store on Friday afternoon has told the court that descriptions of the offender do not match her client.
Police allege the 14-year-old stabbed the victim in the abdomen while the security guard was trying to stop a group of suspected thieves at the shop in City Cross arcade off Rundle Mall at about 5pm.
The security guard was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
A police prosecutor told the court at least six suspects were believed to have been involved in the incident, with one person "still remaining at large".
A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on Saturday.
The 14-year-old appeared on Monday via videolink in Adelaide's Youth Court, where an application for home detention bail was made on his behalf.
His lawyer argued the victim's description of the offender and eyewitness statements did not match her client's appearance.
She told the court that CCTV footage would be of "significant use" in identifying the offender.
The prosecution argued that the clothes worn by the alleged offender on CCTV "closely matched" those worn by the 14-year-old at the time.
The boy has been charged with taking property without consent, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a weapon, aggravated cause harm, failure to comply with a bail agreement and aggravated affray.
His lawyer told the court the 14-year-old had also appeared in court for other matters, but those had been withdrawn as her client was previously found incapable of criminal intent because of his age.
The prosecutor told the court it was believed another suspect — the 15-year-old — punched the security guard and another victim during the altercation.
That boy has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a weapon, aggravated affray and possessing cannabis.
The court heard that the 15-year-old was also on supervised bail at the time of the incident.
Police opposed all forms of bail for both suspects, describing the matter as a "serious altercation".
Both teens were remanded in custody with their home detention report due in 10 days.
