Teenager accused of killing Neath pub landlord bailed as two boys appear in court

Two 16-year-old boys have appeared in court in connection with the death of a pub landlord.

The teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are accused of being involved in an attack on Mark Winchcombe, 58, outside the Smiths Arms pub in Neath.

The pair appeared separately at Swansea Youth Court on Thursday supported by family members where they both confirmed their names, ages, and addresses.

Magistrates heard one of the boys was charged with affray and manslaughter and arranged for him to appear at Swansea Crown Court on October 21.

The hearing for the second boy, who was charged with affray, was adjourned to October 3 where he will reappear at the youth court. Both were released on conditional bail.

Mr Winchcombe died following an alleged assault near his pub in Main Road, Skewen, following a disturbance at around 12.55am on September 1.

His wife Christine said in a statement that she was "devastated" by his loss. She said: "He had a quick-witted personality, an infectious laugh, and he was always on hand to help anybody. Mark had many, many friends.

"His death has left a big hole in our hearts and our lives will never be the same without him."
