Teenager accused of Jobcentre security guard stabbing

Police believe a teenager was behind a sickening attack on a security guard who was stabbed in the back at a Jobcentre.

Officers were called out to the Jobcentre on Childwall Valley Road in Belle Vale around 11.30am yesterday morning after the G4S security guard was knifed in the back.

The guard, said to be in his 40s, suffered a 'serious injury' and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

Today police confirmed they have arrested and charged an 18-year-old man with wounding with intent; assault by beating and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Brendan Cole from Lee Park Avenue in Gateacre was due to appear at Liverpool Adult Remand Court this morning.

After the stabbing Alan Thresher, speaking on behalf of G4S Secure Solutions, thanked the emergency services for "their swift action".

And the Department for Work and Pensions said the health and welfare of our staff and customers in job centres "is our primary concern".
