Teenager, 16, with no underlying conditions, dies after testing positive for coronavirus

A teenager with no known underlying health conditions is one of the thousands of people who have died in hospitals in England this year after testing positive for coronavirus.

The death of the 16-year-old was recorded in today's daily figures from NHS England.

It comes after yesterday's figures showed a 13-year-old without known underlying conditions had died.

Today, a further 307 deaths following a positive test were recorded by hospitals in England.

The deaths occurred between January 12 and February 19.

Patients were between the ages of 16 and 100, and all except four, aged between 16 and 68, had known underlying health conditions.

The NHS said there were a further 32 deaths reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

The latest figures bring the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals in England to 81,046 since the pandemic began.

According to the Department of Health, 120,365 people have died in the UK within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 in all settings.

A further 445 deaths were recorded across the UK in the last 24 hours.
