A 14-year-old boy who is believed to be one of Britain’s youngest ever terror suspects will face trial in September over claims of a bedroom bomb plot.

The teenager, who cannot be identified due to his age, appeared at the Old Bailey this morning via videolink for a preliminary hearing.

It is said he had started constructing an explosive at his home in Eastleigh, Hampshire, using chemicals and shrapnel for the improvised device.

The boy, who converted to Islam this year, is also accused of researching bomb-making online, making videos of explosives, and filming a video expressing his wish to be a “martyr”.

He was arrested by Hampshire Police on June 12 and charged with preparation of terrorist acts.

The boy wore a grey top for today’s court appearance, conducted largely over Skype with just his barrister appearing in the courtroom.

Mr Justice Sweeney remanded him in custody until a trial which is due to start on September 28.

The case will resume with a preliminary hearing on September 2.

No plea was entered to the charge today.
