Teenage thug who stabbed friend to death in row over Bluetooth speaker jailed

A teenage thug who stabbed his friend to death following in a row over a Bluetooth speaker has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

Dylan West, 17, stabbed 18-year-old Joshua Taylor in the chest after tempers flared when West threw the speaker to the floor.

Before the brutal killing, West and Joshua had been arguing over the incident in Richmond Park in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

After a fight broke out between the pair, West fled before returning to the scene fuelled by alcohol and armed with two kitchen knives at around 1am.

Joshua was stabbed in the chest and died at the scene on Sword Drive.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died from a single stab wound.

West, from Hinckley, was arrested later that day and charged with murder.

He denied the charge and claimed he acted in self defence.

He was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter and two counts of possession of a bladed weapon following a trial at Leicester Crown Court.

Judge Philip Head lifted an ordered protecting West's anonymity based on his age after he was jailed today.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Blockley, from East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: "What began as an insignificant fallout between a group of friends on a night out in Hinckley ended with a young man losing his life.

"There are absolutely no excuses for carrying a knife. If you choose to carry a weapon you are more likely to use it.

"The force takes knife crime extremely seriously and are working tirelessly to warn youngsters on the dangers and consequences.

"The #LivesnotKnives campaign was launched more than three years ago and continues to be a priority for the force.

"I hope this incident serves as a warning to others.

"If you know someone who carries a knife in public or has been involved in violent crime we would urge you to report your concerns to the police.

"We work closely with a number of organisations including local authorities in order to educate people, early intervention can prevent serious injury or the loss of life."
