Teenage thug broke man's eye socket in brutal Rutherglen street attack

A teenage thug broke a man’s eye socket in a horror street attack.

Drew Patterson, 19, pounced on a 45-year-old in Rutherglen, on May 11, last year.

The first offender punched the man before repeatedly kicking him on the ground.

The stricken victim was left with a shattered orbital bone and broken eye socket.

Patterson pled guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assault to severe injury.

The court heard Patterson and another teenager were waiting outside the One o One shop on the Main Street.

Prosecutor Amy Hunter said: “The victim also attended and got into a verbal altercation.

“Patterson proceeded to punch him on the face and pulled him to the floor.

“He kicked the male victim on the body before walking away.

“Patterson returned seconds later and kicked him to the head and made off.”

The man was taken to hospital for treatment while Patterson was traced and arrested.

Miss Hunter added: “The 45-year-old had a cut on his head and neck.

“His right orbital bone close to his nose was broken and he had a broken eye socket.”

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Martin Jones QC.

Patterson, of Possilpark, was granted bail meantime.
