Teenage scooter rider dies in crash on main road near Ripley

A teenage boy who was riding his scooter has died in a serious crash on a main road near Ripley.

The 15-year-old boy was involved in the incident that happened around 8.40pm on Sunday (June 30).

The crash between the teenager who had been riding his push scooter and a silver Citroen van happened on the A6 near the Hurt Arms, Ambergate just past Ripley.

The road was closed for several hours last night and into the early morning, DerbyshireLive reports.

Tragically, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

Derbyshire police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

The force said in a statement: "An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision has been launched and our officers are appealing for information from the public.

"In particular they want to hear from any motorists with dashcam devices, who were travelling on the A6 in Ambergate between about 8.20pm and 9pm."
