Teenage murder victim was chased down by killers in high speed pursuit

Police believe the murder of a 16-year-old boy was preceded by a high speed car chase.

It is thought the victim was in a car which was pursued by a second vehicle.

The chase is thought to have started in Moss Side, Manchester, and ended in Old Trafford, where the boy was stabbed to death in Norton Street.

Detectives have established the victim was in the car being chased. Others who were in the car with him have not yet been traced.

After the murder GMP set up a cordon in Moss Side covering a large section of Princess Road and a small section of Great Western Street as they tried to establish where precisely the pursuit had started.

The victim was found just before 6pm last night after being attacked by two unknown men.

He suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital, but he sadly died a short time later, a GMP spokesperson confirmed.

Last night a police cordon remained in place in Norton Street. No arrests have been made.

A second police scene was in place on nearby Upper Chorlton Road, where a vehicle had been recovered that is believed to have been involved in a crash. Officers are currently linking the vehicle to the investigation while forensic tests are carried out.

A third scene was also in place on Cross Street, where a person was hit by a car a short time later, police said.

The pedestrian's injuries are not believed to be serious at this time.

Detective Superintendent Danny Inglis of GMP's Serious Crime Divsion, said: "First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim's family at this incredibly sad time, they are being supported by our specialist officers.

"This is an horrific incident, where a young man has tragically lost his life, and we are following a number of lines of inquiry to establish exactly what has happened, and to bring those responsible to justice.

"We know this happened at a time of day when people would still be out and about or returning home, and we're keen to hear from anyone who may have information that could help our investigation, no matter how small it may seem."

Anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage should contact police via LiveChat on their website or call 101 quoting log number 2613 of 09/09/2021.

Alternatively, you can call the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
