Teenage Lockerbie racer Gordie Mutch goes back in time by driving 1995 Cooper Climax at Thruxton

Teenage racer Gordie Mutch has been doing a little bit of time travelling this week.

On Saturday the Lockerbie lad drove a car from the 1950s before returning to the online racing circuit in the Motorsport UK British Championship on Monday.

Gordie was at Thruxton driving the 1955 Cooper Climax T39 Bobtail in the Royal Automobile Club event in which the Woodcote and Stirling Moss trophies were contested. The racing event puts drivers in classic cars from the 1950s across a variety of classes.

He finished the day of racing seventh overall, third in the Woodcote Trophy and first in the Bobtail class.

He said: “It was absolutely awesome and it was something a bit different to drive in.

“There’s nothing modern about the car at all but it does teach you a few lessons about mechanics and driving. We performed well over the day and I was really happy with the drive.”

It was back to the future after the weekend with the online race on Monday night. The track in the latest round of the online Motorsport UK Championship was Oulton Park. That was fortunate as he’s going to be racing in the next round of the Ginetta GT5 Championship at the Oulton Park Island.

Gordie said: “I won that so that’s me with two wins in a row in the championship.

“It’s good practice for this weekend in getting back in the car. And I’ll be up against a few people at the weekend who I was racing online.”

The Ginetta GT5 race at Oulton Park Island is a support stage for the British Touring Car Championship and will be televised on ITV4.
