Teenage girls' bags snatched by man on bike in busy town centre

Two teenage girls had their bags snatched by a man on a bike in the middle of a busy town centre street.

At around 7.15pm yesterday (Tuesday), the girls were sat outside JD Sports on Chapel Street, Southport, when the man approached them.

He stole the girls' bags, which are said to have contained money, clothes and makeup, before riding off with a second man in the direction of Scarisbrick Street.

A mum of one of the girls, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the ECHO : "[My daughter and her friend] were sat on the bench.

"My daughter got up to say hi to one of her friends who she saw, and the man came up and snatched both their bags and rode off.

"They all gave chase but couldn't catch him."

The mum says her daughter's bag was a Louis Vuitton bum-bag, and had makeup and money in it.

Merseyside Police confirmed officers are investigating and say the suspects are described as 20-30 years old, around 5ft 5in tall, and one wearing a black and white chequered backpack.

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information or who captured the incident on CCTV or other devices is asked to contact @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 21000359256.
