Teenage girl who died after falling from city centre building named

A teenager who died after falling from a city centre building has now been named.

Emergency services rushed to Union Street at around 10.40pm on Tuesday, June 1 after reports that an 18-year-old woman had fallen from the Irwell Chambers building.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the teenager died at the scene.

A 21-year-old man - who was known to the victim - was initially arrested on suspicion of murder but later released without charge.

Merseyside Police confirmed the man was released and told he will face no further action.

The young woman who died has now been identified as 18-year-old Ella Halliday, believed to have been a student at Liverpool John Moores University originally from Huddersfield.

The Liverpool ECHO has contacted the university for comment.

An inquest into Ella's 'unexplained death' has now been opened.

In an in memoriam piece for the Huddersfield Examiner her family wrote: "Ella is loved by many people and will live forever in our hearts.

"A private family funeral service will be held at Huddersfield Crematorium."

The family have asked that donations in Ella's memory may be made to Candlelighters.org.uk
