Teenage girl trapped under Land Rover suffers serious injuries in horror crash

A 17-year-old girl became trapped underneath a Land Rover in a horror crash in Garforth on Monday evening.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm when the driver of the vehicle was travelling along the A642 Wakefield Road and was involved in a collision with the young pedestrian.

The road was closed as emergency crews were sent to the scene, including an ambulance, a hazardous area response team and two rapid response vehicles.

However, the girl could only be freed with specialist equipment from West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service's technical rescue unit from Cleckheaton.

They were able to pull her free from underneath the car and transfer her to paramedics, who took her to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment for serious injuries.

The driver stopped at the scene and was spoken to by officers.

Wakefield Road reopened at roughly 5.30pm.
