Teenage girl threatened by man believed to be brandishing a handgun

A teenage girl was threatened by a man believed to be brandishing a handgun - leading to the arrest of two men in a park by armed police.

The girl said she was targeted in Frampton Cotterell at the same time two cars were damaged in Perrinpit Road.

The incident happened during the day time on Thursday (June 25).

Later, at 6pm, police investigating the report were seen arresting two men, aged 19 and 20, in Southey Park in Kingswood.

They were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said today the pair had since been released under investigation and enquiries were continuing.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: "Two men aged 19 and 20 remain in police custody following their arrest in Kingswood last night, Thursday 25 June.

"The men were arrested in Southey Avenue and Spring Hill at about 6pm, after officers stopped a vehicle. They were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.

"The arrest followed an incident earlier that day in Perrinpit Road, Frampton Cotterell, when two cars were damaged and a teenage girl reported being threatened with what she believed to be a handgun.
