Teenage girl taken to hospital after being knocked down in Wishaw street

A teenage girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle in a busy Wishaw street.

The 13-year-old Coltness High School pupil was struck at around 12.45pm this afternoon.

Police confirmed the girl was taken to hospital following the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We can confirm a 13-year-old girl was knocked down in Coltness Road this afternoon.

“The girl was taken to University Hospital Wishaw as a precaution.

“The road has since re-opened.”

Coltness High headteacher John McGilp confirmed a number of pupils who witnesses the incident were allowed home.

He added: “An S2 pupil was knocked down today on the Coltness Road. Medical assistance was quickly on the scene and the pupil was taken to hospital.

“Some pupils who witnessed the accident have been sent home.”
