Teenage girl shoots dead Taliban fighters who killed her parents in Afghanistan

A teenage girl who fought back against militants who killed her parents has been hailed a hero.

Insurgents stormed Qamar Gul's house looking for her father, the village chief, last week.

They gunned down the man and his wife, as well as injuring several other people.

In retaliation their daughter used an AK-47 assault rifle to kill two Taliban fighters and wound several others in the Ghor province.

After she did several more militants came to attack her at home in Griwa village.

Pro-government militia and villagers beat them away however, Arab News reported.

Since the attack Qamar, who is thought to be between 14 and 16-years-old, and her younger brother have been taken to a safer place, officials have said.

A photo of the teenager holding an AK-47 has inspired praise for her exploits online.

Najiba Rahmi wrote on Facebook : "Hats off to her courage! Well done."

"We know parents are irreplaceable, but your revenge will give you relative peace," said Mohamed Saleh added.

The Taliban regularly target Afghan people who they believe are informers for the government.

Despite seemingly successful peace talks held in Kabul, the group have stepped up attacks against security forces in recent months.
