Teenage girl sexually assaulted in Hamilton McDonald's restaurant

A man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in a Hamilton burger restaurant has been jailed for six months and put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for seven years.

Jack Barr, 23, was found guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court of handling the 13-year-old’s buttocks at McDonald’s, Douglas Park Lane, on April 18.

Sheriff David Bicket also convicted him of threatening or abusive behaviour towards the victim at the restaurant, at McDonalds in Hamilton’s Palace Grounds, at Hamilton West train station and on various streets in the town.

The charge stated Barr “joined the girl’s company without being invited”, followed her, told people she was his girlfriend, shouted and acted aggressively.

He was cleared of threatening to take the girl away, grabbing her and swinging her, causing her body to strike a lamppost.

Barr’s address was given as care of HMP Barlinnie, Glasgow.

The six-month sentence was backdated to July 9 to take account of time he has already spent in custody.
