Teenage girl hospitalised after city centre bus crash

A teenage girl has been taken to hospital after a city centre crash this morning (May 31). The emergency services were called to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a bus.

The serious collision took place on Lewins Mead Road and roads were cordoned off following the incident. Emergency services arrived just before 10am and her next of kin have been notified.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to Colston Avenue, in Bristol city centre, at 9.50am today (Tuesday 31 May) following a collision between a bus and a pedestrian.

"A teenage girl has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious and her next of kin are aware."

A statement from the South Western Ambulance Service (SWASFT) reads: “We were called at 09.45hrs to a road traffic collision in the centre of Bristol. We sent a double-crewed land ambulance and an operations officer and conveyed one patient to hospital by land ambulance.”

Colston Avenue and St Augustine's Parade, and some surrounding roads, have been closed and diversions are in place while emergency services are on the scene.

Officers ask anyone who witnessed the collision or have dashcam and CCTV footage, to please contact them 101 and quote log 225 of today (31 May) to the call handler.
