Teenage girl seriously injured after being hit by bus while cycling on Kimmage Road, Terenure

A teenage girl has suffered serious injuries after being struck by a bus in South Dublin.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Kimmage Road West in Terenure after the teen was hit around 8pm.

The girl was rushed to St James's Hospital while the road is currently closed both ways for forensic examination.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai in Terenure are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Dublin.

"Shortly before 8pm a female cyclist in her teens was struck by a bus on  Kimmage Rd West, Terenure.

"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene. The injured female was taken by Ambulance to St James’s Hospital where her injuries are believed to be serious.

"The scene is preserved for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and diversions are in place."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Terenure Garda Station 01 666 6400 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Gardai are urging everyone to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

They said: "Traffic Alert: Diversions in place due to a Road Traffic Collision on  Kimmage Rd West, Terenure. Please avoid the area and use alternative routes."

AA Roadwatch said: "Gardai are dealing with a crash on Kimmage Rd West at the KCR junction, with the road completely blocked.

"Diversions are in place via Greenlea Rd. Traffic is slow approaching on Fortfield Rd coming from the Rathfarnham side."
