Teenage girl rushed to hospital with 'life-changing' injuries after young couple assaulted by gang in Ballyfermot

A teenage girl was rushed to hospital after she and a boy were assaulted by a gang in Ballyfermot.

The shocking attack took place near the Ballyfermot Civic Centre at around 9:45pm on Thursday evening.

The girl, 17, was rushed to St James' Hospital for treatment for her injuries which were described by one local as "life-changing".

The boy, 18, did not require hospitalisation.

Gardai told Dublin Live that they are investigating the assault, but that no arrests have been made yet.

They said: "Gardai are investigating an incident of assault that occurred on Thursday, 30th December 2021 at approximately 9.45pm in the Drumfinn area of Ballyfermot.

"It is understood a man (18) and a woman (17) were assaulted by a number of youths.

"The woman was taken to Saint James Hospital for treatment of her injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening.

"No arrests have been made at this time.

"Investigations are ongoing."
