Teenage girl raped in grounds of Edinburgh church as cops hunt attacker

A police investigation is underway after a teenager was raped in the grounds of an Edinburgh church.

Officers were called after the 17-year-old victim was sexually assaulted near the South Leith Parish Church on Constitution Street.

The attack took place at around 1am on Thursday and police a probe has now been launched to determine the ‘full circumstances’.

Officers remain at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a serious sexual assault involving a 17-year-old girl at around 1am on Thursday, October 22 in the grounds of a church in the Leith area of Edinburgh.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances around the incident.”
