Teenage girl 'lucky to be alive' after taking pill believed to be ecstasy

A teenage girl is "lucky to be alive" after taking a tablet believed to be ecstasy.

Police have issued a warning about the dangers of illegal drugs such as ecstasy after a teenage girl was taken to hospital after taking a tablet.

The incident involved a young girl in her early teens and happened in Talbot Green on Saturday, September 21.

It is understood that she took just a quarter of the tablet and was taken to Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.

She has since made a full recovery but doctors who cared for her said she is lucky to be alive.

Parents are now being urged to speak to their children about the dangers of drugs.

South Wales Police is working with schools in the area to raise awareness after this recent incident and educate young people about drug use.

What happens after a crime is reported?

Local Policing Inspector Stephen Daley said: “The decision to take an ecstasy table can be made in a split second and it could be the last choice that somebody will make.

“We know that there are tablets in circulation which could a deadly amount of MDMA and people are literally playing roulette with their own life – it is saddening and deeply concerning that tablets are being exchanged between children.”

Officers are now trying to find the person who supplied the tablet.

He is described as being approximately 16 years old, slim, 5ft10in with mousy brown hair and a straight fringe.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a black hoodie.

Inspector Daley added: “I’m asking the community to make a stand – anybody who has information - give us a call and tell us who supplied the tablet on Saturday evening. That call could help to save a life.”

Anyone with information is urged to call South Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number 350914.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
