Teenage girl in critical condition in hospital after being shot in Wolverhampton

A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital after she was shot.

Paramedics and armed police were called to Hughes Avenue in Wolverhampton at 4.15pm on Saturday after the 18-year-old was found with chest injuries

A weapon - believed to be a double-barrel shotgun - was found nearby and West Midlands Police said enquiries into whether it was used in the incident are currently ongoing, Birmingham Live reports.

Police say the victim is "critical but stable" in hospital with her injuries.

A dog walker said it was an "horrendous" incident and shocking that it had happened to a young girl.

Local resident Jessica Williams said: "This is terrible. Poor girl. I will not be walking around this areas on my own anymore."

West Midlands Police said in a statement: “The 18-year-old was taken to hospital with chest injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

“A gun was recovered nearby and we’re carrying out further inquiries to establish whether it’s connected.

“A scene remains in place while we continue to establish the full circumstances.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 2814 of April 3.
