Teenage girl hit by speeding bus in Ahmedabad, dies

AHMEDABAD: A 17-year-old girl was killed after a speeding state transport (ST) bus hit her near Tagdi village in Dhandhuka taluka in Ahmedabad district on Monday.

According to Dhandhuka police, the girl, Bavu Vadodaria, was riding pillion on a bike with her sister-in-law Aarti Vadodaria, 20, and her brother Haresh Vadodaria. The trio were returning from post-death rituals of their maternal uncle in Kariyani village to their village.

When Haresh was riding the motorcycle, a truck driver driving ahead of them suddenly applied breaks after which Haresh tried to overtake the truck. Meanwhile, a bus of GSRTC (Gujarat state regional transport corporation) between Ahmedabad and Surendranagar overtook Haresh in which it hit his motorcycle.

The 21-year-old along with his wife and sister fell on the road and suffered severe injuries.

Bavu suffered critical injuries in her head and died on the spot. Locals called up 108 ambulance and later a doctor declared her dead.

The police registered a case of causing death by negligent driving against an unidentified ST bus driver.
