Teenage girl dies after entering river in Co Antrim

A teenage girl has tragically died after entering the water in a river in Co Antrim.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the Inver River in Larne at around 10pm last night.

A police helicopter, search and ambulance crews were all involved in the operation to find the young girl, Belfast Live reports.

And now it has been confirmed that the teen has tragically passed away.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 14 year old girl at the Inver River area of Larne last night, Tuesday, 26 November.

"A post mortem is due to take place and enquiries are continuing.

"There are no further details at this stage."

An eyewitness said last night: "It happened just off the dual carriageway.

"Everything has been sealed off. The river runs down a deep verge, you can hear it running rapidly even with lorries going by.

"There are specialist fire brigades, community rescue service, police and about 10 to 15 emergency vehicles here, it's a massive operation."
