Teenage girl and woman hit in face by 'noxious substance' hurled from van

A teenage girl and a woman aged 60 have been left with facial injuries after a 'noxious substance' was thrown at them from a van in south London.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to reports of a noxious substance attack in Thornton Heath at 11.44am today.

Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade and found two victims suffering facial injuries.

One woman, who lives in Thornton Heath, told MyLondon: "The word is that she didn’t know the boy who asked to roll her window down, he said he wanted to ask her something.

"Apparently she isn’t even from the area. This area disgusts me. I hate living here."

Both were rushed to hospital.

Their facial injuries are not considered life threatening.

Jon Ellacott, who lives in Croydon, tweeted: "What a cowardly attack, on the first day of the Easter holidays."

He told the Standard: "All we know is that a noxious substance was thrown from a van at a woman with her children, walking down the road.

"The first we knew about it was when the fire brigade, police and paramedics turned up."

No arrests have been made.

Met Police have not confirmed what the substance was.
