Teenage gangs brawl at ER

Teenagers have again brawled outside an emergency room, this time at a hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima's Prathai district, the third such outbreak of violence this month.

Traffic cones were left scattered in front of the ER entrance when police arrived at Prathai Hospital in the early hours yesterday.

"Members of two rival groups threw the cones at each other," deputy national police spokesman Kissana Phathanacharoen said.

There was no report of any casualties during the incident that followed an earlier quarrel during a concert in the district.

"The earlier clash saw the two sides throw items at each other which resulted in a woman sustaining a head injury," Pol Col Kissana said.

The wife of one of the teenagers was taken to Prathai Hospital, where wounded members of the other gang also sought treatment, according to accounts given by the victim's relative, Chanphen Siyangnok.

"When her husband and friends saw their rivals at the ER, they began a second brawl," Pol Col Kissana said.

The incident was recorded and a video clip was later posted online.

Ms Chanphen told police the teenagers who injured the woman came from Chum Phuang district and had a quarrel with local youngsters during the concert.

Prathai Hospital filed a complaint with police yesterday against the group from Chum Phuang.

Investigators have checked security camera footage and expect to make arrests soon, Pol Col Kissana said.

"We warn impetuous teenagers against picking quarrels like this. They will be strictly prosecuted," he said.
