A teenage e-scooter rider is fighting for life after colliding with a car at a south London junction.

Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the scene of the crash in Herne Hill shortly after 4.30am on Tuesday.

The rider of the scooter, a 19-year-old man, was found with serious injuries on Croxted Road, at the junction with Norwood Road, next to Brockwell Park.

He was rushed to a south London hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police said.

A Met Police spokesman added that there had been no arrests.

Earlier this year London's transport chief called for a safety review of the use of e-scooters, which can be legally used on private land in the UK but are banned from public roads and pavements.

In July, YouTuber and presenter Emily Hartridge died when her e-scooter collided with a lorry in Battersea.

E-scooters can exceed 30mph and are increasingly being used for short journeys in a number of countries, including in many European cities and the US.
