Teenage cyclist taken to hospital after air ambulance called to van crash in Tyldesley

A teenage cyclist was rushed to hospital after a crash in Tyldesley.

The boy was involved in a collision with a van on Hough Lane, near the junction with Manchester Road this morning (Tuesday).

Paramedics were called to the scene at around 8.30am and were joined by an air ambulance, which landed nearby.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said the cyclist escaped with only minor injuries but was taken to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment.

She said: "We were called today at 8.30am to reports of a road traffic collision on Hough Lane in Wigan involving a bicycle and a van.

"We sent a land ambulance and air ambulance to scene and treated a teenager, male, with a head injury and minor facial injuries.

"The patient was taken to Salford Royal Hospital by land ambulance."

Police were also called to the scene and the road was briefly closed while the boy was treated causing some delays and congestion for computers leaving Tyldesley.

The road has now been reopened.
