Teenage cyclist rushed to hospital after being knocked off his bike

A 13-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital after being knocked off his bike in Bootle this afternoon.

The incident happened in Knowsley Road at around 3.20pm.

A police spokesperson said the teenage boy was on a bike when it "made contact" with a vehicle.

He said: "Initially he was thought to have suffered quite serious injuries."

The cyclist was taken to Alder Hey childrens' hospital but fortunately his injuries were not found to be as serious as first feared.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene.

There was a large emergency services presence at the scene in Knowsley Road this afternoon, and the road was temporarily closed to traffic.

The route was re-opened to traffic after around an hour.

A blue F-reg Nissan with damaged bodywork and its front windscreen completely smashed out remained at the scene this afternoon.
