Teenage cyclist in critical condition after 'serious' crash with car on East Lancs Road

A teenage cyclist is in hospital with 'life-threatening injuries' following a crash on the East Lancashire Road.

Police were called at around 2.55pm on Wednesday to reports that a grey Peugeot 3008 had collided with a cyclist on the East Lancs Road, close to the junction with Carr Lane in Leigh.

The cyclist - a 16-year-old boy - was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have had dash cam footage of the incident, or the moments before it.

Police Constable Phil Drummond, of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts are with the teenage boy who has suffered very serious injuries as a result of this collision and we are doing all we can to ascertain the circumstances of this incident.

“I appealing to anyone who may have been travelling along the East Lancashire Road around the Leigh area between 2.50pm-3pm to come forward and assist with our investigation.

“In particular, we are interested in hearing from any road users who may have dash cam footage of the incident or the moments preceding the collision.

"Any information you have may prove to be of great importance.”

No arrests have been made as of yet.

The driver of the Peugeot remained at the scene and has assisted officers with enquiries into the incident.
