Teenage boy taken to hospital after being hit by van in Chester-le-Street park

A 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being run over by a van in a Chester-le-Street park.

Police are investigating after a white flatbed van was driven along a pedestrian path through a park behind Ouston Primary School.

The driver, who police believe may be a milkman, then veered off the path onto the grass before running over the foot of a teenage boy.

The victim was taken to hospital after sustaining non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident at 6am on Tuesday.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the dangerous driving in the hope of locating the male suspect.

Officers are understood to exploring the possibility that the driver of the van was a milkman.

A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident of dangerous driving in the park behind Ouston Primary School, around 0600 on Tuesday 19th August 2019.

"Anyone who can offer any information to help progress this investigation is urged to call 101, quoting incident number DHM-19082019-0191."
