Teenage boy taken to hospital after being hit by bus in Bury

A teenage boy has been taken to hospital by ambulance after being hit by a bus on a major road in Bury.

Emergency services rushed to the A56 Walmersley Road following reports of a collision at around 3.15pm on Wednesday (May 26).

Officers at the scene discovered that a 16-year-old pedestrian had been hit by a bus on the road.

He was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital after suffering a head injury in the collision. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

No arrests have been following initial enquiries into the crash, Greater Manchester Police has confirmed.

A spokesperson for the force told the Manchester Evening News : "Officers were called just after 3.15pm today (May 26) to Walmersley Road, Bury to a report of a collision.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established a 16-year-old male pedestrian had been in collision with a bus.

"No arrests have been made."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added: "An ambulance has taken a teenage boy to hospital after suffering a head injury.

"A response vehicle and advanced paramedic also attended the scene following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a bus."

Motorists travelling in the area faced disruption while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The road has since been cleared.
