Teenage boy stabbed in the stomach during fight on Bank Holiday weekend

A teenage boy was stabbed multiple times in the stomach during a brutal fight over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The 18-year-old suffered a number of wounds and was rushed to hospital at around 6am on Saturday, August 29 on Waverley Street, in Southport.

It is believed that the teen was involved in an altercation before he became injured.

He is still in hospital receiving treatment but Merseyside Police have confirmed his injuries are not life threatening.

Over the weekend a 19-year-old, from Southport, was arrested in connection with the stabbing.

Callum Cunliffe, of Loxley Road, has now been charged with Section 18 wounding and possession of a bladed article following the incident.

A police spokesperson said: "Merseyside Police have charged a 19 year old man from Southport following a stabbing on Saturday (29th August).

"The victim, an 18 year old man, was stabbed on Waverley Street, Southport at around 6am following an altercation.

"This resulted in him receiving stab wounds to his stomach. He remains in hospital at this time with non-life threatening injuries.

"Callum Cunliffe, of Loxley Road, was arrested and has now been charged with Section 18 wounding and possession of a bladed article following the incident."

Cunliffe has been remanded in custody until 28th September where he will appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea hearing.
