Teenage boy stabbed in Heaton Mersey seriously ill in hospital

A teenage boy is seriously ill in hospital after being stabbed near a convenience store in Stockport.

The 13-year-old boy was attacked close to the Co-op on Didsbury Road, in Heaton Mersey, on Sunday evening.

He was taken to hospital where he remains with serious injuries.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police were initially called to Hamilton Crescent, but detectives believe the assault took place near the Co-op on Didsbury Road.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault on Sunday.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

GMP have stepped up patrols in the area and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
