Teenage boy seriously hurt in stabbing outside Co-op in Heaton Mersey

A teenage boy has been seriously hurt after being stabbed outside a convenience store in Stockport.

He was injured during an incident outside the Co-op on Didsbury Road near Heaton Mersey shortly before 6.30pm on Sunday.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and a boy, believed to be school-aged, was taken to hospital.

Police cordoned off an area outside the store as an investigation was launched into the incident.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to the area, near the junction with Crescent Park, at 6.30 pm.

He said the incident was 'believed to be a stabbing'.

"It's an on-going investigation," he added.

The victim had been taken to hospital and his injuries were 'potentially serious', said the spokesman.

One resident told the M.E.N: "There are always kids hanging around outside. That store has a big problem with shoplifters and there are always cops there."

Anyone with information about the incident can call GMP on 101 or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
