Teenage boy in critical condition and three others injured after crash in Cork

A teenage boy is in a critical condition and three others are seriously hurt after a crash in Cork this afternoon.

The collision between a car and a van happened shortly after 2pm on the road from Inishannon to Cross Barry, Cork Live reports.

The teenage boy was believed to be a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Three adults were also seriously hurt but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The road has been closed at Dunkereen Cross with motorists advised to avoid the area for the next few hours.

Gardai remain at the scene of the crash with forensic teams analysing the crash site.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision at Dunkerreen Cross, Innishannon Co Cork.

"The incident involving a truck and a car occurred at approximately 1.55pm on the 23rd April 2019.

"The male driver of the truck and the three occupants of the car have been taken to Cork University
Hospital.

"A male in his teens was seriously injured in the collision.

"Forensic Collision Investigators are currently at the scene. The road is currently closed and diversions are in place.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses travelling this road to contact Bandon Garda Station at (023) 8852200."
