Teenage boy found with Rolex and balaclava during coronavirus lockdown

Knowsley police arrested a 13-year-old boy after they found a Rolex watch in his coat pocket.

Police detained the teen from Whiston after local officers conducted a search following reports of a group of males congregating around Molyneux Drive, Prescot around 5.30pm last night.

Gloves, a balaclava and the Rolex watch were seized by police as part of a handling stolen goods investigation.

A property in the Whiston area was also later searched by officers as part of the investigation.

Knowsley police also reported further arrests the same evening on Molyneux Drive as two men aged 17 and 18 were detained following the recovery of cannabis discarded in a nearby garden.

It is not known at this stage if the two incidents are linked.

Crime has generally reduced across Merseyside as people are following social distancing and isolation guidance issued to halt the spread of coronavirus.

Despite this, there have been incidents where criminals have taken advantage of the lockdown.

This has prompted Merseyside's Chief Constable Andy Cooke to previously comment: "I want to continue to put our resources and our personnel towards the criminals who might want to take advantage of the situation, so you will still see Merseyside Police officers stopping and searching people in the streets, you will still see doors going through in certain parts of the county and you will see that proactive approach."
