Teenage boy found dead on train tracks near railway station in afternoon tragedy

A teenage boy was found dead on train tracks near a railway station.

British Transport Police were called to Queenborough railway station at 4.44pm yesterday following a report of a casualty on the tracks.

In a statement they said: "Officers and paramedics attended but sadly a teenage boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His family have been informed and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Some reports on social media claimed a person had jumped from an iron bridge near the railway station, but this has not been confirmed.

One person said their son was on the train when the incident occurred, adding: "It stopped at Queensway. A lot of sirens around there."

Another said: "My son has said they are hoping to move the train soon."

Southeastern train services on the Sheerness line were suspended while emergency services responded to the incident.
