Teenage boy dies following a single-vehicle crash in Co Antrim

A teenage boy has died following a horror crash in County Antrim on Friday night.

The incident occurred near Cullybackey, on the Cardonaghy Road shortly after 11:40 pm when police were alerted to the accident.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service all attended the scene, according to a spokesperson.

The 17-year-old was removed and taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Another teenage boy and one girl were also in the car, and had to be taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries - which are not believed to be life threatening.

The PSNI has since confirmed that a 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward and anyone with footage of the area (particularly dash-cam footage) at the time of the accident, to make it available to them.

The road was closed for some time but has since reopened.
